Stoddard Countians in Company D, 6th Missouri Infantry

Many of the Stoddard Countians that actually fought with Company D during the Vicksburg Campaign (which is not indicated on this list), were part of a larger exchange of prisoners, many of whom were captured on January 27, 1863 in Bloomfield, Missouri.  They were then sent to Gratiot Prison in St. Louis, then another prison before being exchanged at City Point, Virginia.  They made their way back and caught up with the 1st Missouri Brigade at Bovina, Mississippi.  Most joined Company D, 6th Missouri and fought with the regiment through the Vicksburg campaign and siege.  After the fall of Vicksburg, nearly all of them left the army and came back to Missouri and joined locally raised units such as Company B, 7th Missouri Cavalry.
